Setting
Pemba is a magical Island. Gentle, undulating hills and deep verdant valleys are all cloaked in dense clove, coconut and mango plantations. It has one of the best coral reefs in the world, a mangrove ecosystem and natural forests. As part of a cluster of islands in Zanzibar, it is possible to take a day trip to more remote nearby islands such as Misali Island. Do not worry if you are a first time diver, or a more experienced one, as the resort has a fully equipped Diving Centre at an additional cost, you can explore the pristine coral.
Eateries
Meals are a subtle fusion of Arabic, Swahili and Indian food with a colonial influence. You will get to sample local vegetables, fresh fish caught by the fishermen or you, seasonal and local meats as well as unusual local fruit. Vegetarians can be catered for. They hold barbeques and eating is an adventure as you have a choice of where to eat, on the jetty or the beach and, whenever possible under the stars.

This magical hilly Island of Pemba is still relatively undiscovered with a still basic infrastructure patiently awaiting to be discovered. Pemba Island is known for its healers. Take lots of sun protection, pack casual chic. Do visit the local village with one of the staff and visit the primary school in the village of Kunguni that the Fundu Lagoon Fund helped build.
